Dog Training – Perimeter Training
One of the big concerns that we all have when it comes to our dogs is what we do around the road we found out that dogs and cars don’t mix very well there’s an easy process that we can follow to show our dogs exactly what a curb means and so they understand that no matter what’s going on they just do not go out into that street there’s five things that we have to remember the first thing is to walk our dog parallel to the curb that we’re going to stand on the road ourselves to remove the dog back and forth with us so they understand that we can be out there but they can’t. That’s a good boy. That’s a good boy the second stage of things is to walk the dog in a perpendicular direction towards the curb when we get to the edge and we’ll stop and say wait what are you confident that if you wait. For the third part is that we walk up to the curb in the same manner and we’re going to cross over onto the road ourselves and tell the dog to stay OK it’s important that we work with the state command prior to this so the dog understands what we’re talking about. You want to wait. Boy. Section is that we’re going to take our toys and we’re going to play with the dog parallel to the road that we’ve just worked on a boy and so that the dog understands that he can play and have a good time near the road but just not be going out onto it the fifth and last step that will do is to throw the toy actually out into the road to see if the dog is understood exactly what we’ve shown him we want to be very careful that there is no car coming at the time we do this and if we’ve done our work properly the dog should run right up to the edge and without being told anything stop on his own accord the correction that we’ll be using is when we throw the toilet into the road the moment the dog steps onto the street itself we would use a verbal command such as no or hey just to let the dog know that’s the moment of error and then we will. Go get the dog and take him up to the edge we ourselves stand on the road as we pull him towards us right at the curb edge we will bump him back firmly in the chest with the palm of our hand we will repeat this behavior twice bombing them back into town and at that point we step back out into the grass pet the dog praise Him showing that we’re still his body but we want to make him understand that the road itself right at that edge is where the correction will come and then we will play with the dog a few more times in between and then attempt to throw the toilet into the road again it’s important that we play with the dog in between each air play with them three or four or five times parallel to the road with the toy so that he doesn’t become afraid to play we don’t want to become wise to the situation that we’re working on here so that we play with them a number of times get them all excited so that he’s not thinking about what’s coming then we throw the toilet into the road again and test them that way be careful not to say anything until the dog actually steps onto the road because there’s times when the dog will run right up to the edge and then realize what they’re supposed to do dig their toes in and stop on a dime. A. Boy. It’s good to start an area where the curves are very clearly defined it makes it much easier for the dog to understand at that point once you’ve done a bit of work you could move to areas where the grass runs straight into the road without a curb it should only take about an hour to start seeing very good results and this and in about a week you will have a lot of confidence that your dog is never going to run out into a road for any situation and that’s going to make you very happy as well as knowing that your dog is very safe. Good boy. He shows us exactly how it’s supposed to be done without a word from us she automatically moves away from the curb each time for toy goes into the road.
